Opti3 Omega 3 – Overview

Opti3 is a British-made supplement from Vegetology, a company with a strong background in providing the highest quality supplements to support your diet, as well as being environmentally-friendly.

We’re big fans of Vegetology here at Best Vegan HQ – their ethos directly aligns with our own, and they really do seem to put a lot of hard work into their products and sustainable packaging.

With that being said, we will not be biased towards them with their products – if the capsules are almost impossible to swallow, or taste terrible, we’ll tell it like it is.

The Opti3 Omega 3 supplement comes in a small bottle which is 100% biodegradable, recyclable and made from sugar cane. Pretty cool right?

Inside your bottle, you get 60 capsules. Vegetology recommend taking two capsules a day with food to see the best results. Personally, we think you’d still see the benefits from just one capsule a day, but that’s just our own preference.

60 capsules will keep you going for about a month if you’re sticking to the recommended dose, or two months if you’re happy with just one a day.

Vegetology Omega 3 – Main Features

  • Completely vegan: Opti3 gets its high levels of omega 3 from algae (the same source fish get their omega 3 from) and other plant-based ingredients.
  • Very easy to swallow: The capsules go down very easily, with no fishy aftertaste. One of our team struggles to swallow tablets, so it was great to find out that the capsules are piercable and the contents can be either added to food or just taken as a liquid!
  • Can be used by everyone: The Opti3 Omega 3 supplement is safe to use for adults and children, and is also perfect for use during pregnancy.
  • Sustainable product and recyclable packaging: Vegetology have worked hard to create a supplement range that is sustainable and good for the environment, as well as ensuring that their packaging is 100% recyclable.
  • Free from allergens: Completely free from gluten, sugar, wheat and dairy.
  • Pharmaceutical quality – rigorous testing ensures the quality of the supplements are of the highest quality.

Ingredients and Nutrition

Vegetology have kept the ingredients clear and simple.

Inside each capsule, you’ve got a blend of oils for the omega 3, which they call the Opti3 Complex (Microalgal Oils, Helianthus Annuus Oil and Antioxidants). You’ve then got Cholecalciferol, which sounds scary, but it’s actually just vitamin D3.

The capsule itself is made from modified starch (a plant-based ingredient derived from cereals), vegan glycerol, Carrageenan Seaweed (a seaweed typically used to replace gelatin) and sodium carbonate.

Nutritionally, you want to make sure that your supplement has good levels of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). These two ingredients are the most useful sources of omega 3 and are central to your general health and wellbeing when taking an omega 3 supplement.

The majority of independent organisations recommend between 250mg and 500mg of combined EPA and DHA per day.

Opti3 Omega 3 provides around 800mg of combined EPA and DHA per serving. There are fluctuations in exactly how much due to different batches having different amounts, but it’s always 800mg minimum (often higher).

Taste

After taking 2 capsules a day for a month, we’ve found that there is no fishy aftertaste to these at all.

The capsule itself tastes faintly sweet, but it’s barely noticable. They go down quickly with some water and leave no fishyness.

Well done Vegetology!

Value for Money

As always when looking to invest in a supplement long-term, cost is an important factor. So, how does Opti3 Omega 3 compare to some of the other supplements out there?

One thing to note here is serving size. Recommended serving size is two capsules, which means a bottle will last you about a month.

However, some people may find one capsule is more than enough. Be sure to consider what your personal serving size will be.
